We'll try anything to stay extra warm on those wintry days. It could be a steaming mug of delicious hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, using rechargeable hand warmers, putting on an extra pair of socks or attempting to hibernate under a pile of cozy blankets on the couch.

However, we can’t stay as snug as a bug in a rug forever. Keep reading for some easy solutions to help you stay a little warmer whenever you have to brave the frigid temperatures.

Watch this video to see how your clothes can keep you extra warm in the cold.

Heated pants

Believe it or not, heated clothes are a thing!

A simple search online will help you find gear like vests, pants, socks and even foldable chairs with heating mechanisms built in. They often have a button that allows you to choose a low, medium or high heat level, and choose which area of your clothing you want heated. Some might even take things further and connect to an app.

These heated items usually plug into a separate power bank, much like the ones you use to charge your smartphone on the go. Since the power bank is removable, the clothes can still be thrown in the wash. Not all of these heated items come with a battery pack, so you may need to purchase one separately if you don’t have any spares at home. Consider opting for a smaller pack since you will be wearing it, and heavier chargers will add bulk and weight to your clothes. If you’re planning to pack your heated clothes on a trip, use the TSA app to check where you need to pack your power bank.

Dryer

If you don’t have heated clothes, that’s ok! You can easily warm up your clothes before wearing them. Put your shirt, jacket, socks, gloves, hat or even shoes in the dryer before you venture out into the cold. All it takes is a few minutes in the dryer to supply you with a few extra degrees of warmth.

If you’re putting your shoes in the dryer, it’s a good idea to clean them off before doing so, especially if you’re putting them in with other items. Bonus tip: to stop them thumping around, tie the laces and hang them over the edge of the door, then close the door. This pins them in place and eliminates any thumping.
