Recently, I asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the scariest TV episodes they've ever. Here are 23 of their top (and most terrifying!) response: Warning: Spoilers ahead! 1. " Stranger Things Season 4, Episode 1, 'The Hellfire Club.' It starts off harmless — yay, everyone's back — and then Vecna takes hold of sweet Chrissy and breaks her body so horribly that I stopped breathing when I saw it for the first time." — ruandano 2. " Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4, Episode 10, 'Hush.' It was the first Buffy episode I ever saw, and it certainly made an impression. The Gentlemen still creep me out over 20 years later." — catieferrarer "The Buffy episode with The Gentlemen was rather spooky for its time!" — pengispoon81 "The scene where Olivia is looking out the window at Giles's house, and one of the Gentlemen suddenly appears. I KNOW it's coming, and I still jump every single time." — savorytree18 In this episode, the Gentlemen steal the voices of everyone in Sunnydale. 3. "The last episode of Veronica Mars Season 1, 'Leave It To Beaver.' Some of the images are burned into my brain." — kathryndownard In this episode, Veronica finally discovers who killed Lilly Kane, but the murderer then tries to kill her by trapping her in an old fridge and lighting it on fire. 4. " Psych Season 3, Episode 15, 'Tuesday the 17th' was too much for a comedy. I'm not great at scary movies or scary stuff at all, but I want to watch the nice, entertaining bits, so I literally have to put my head down and cover my ears each time it's about to get bad." "And the story repeats itself twice in the episode. Too much for the first time I saw it; I thought it was safe, LOL!" — asandborgmitchell "That's an episode I skip when I rewatch the series. But I'm also a big baby about scary stuff." — bethgenenbacher In this episode, Shawn and Gus investigate the disappearance of a counselor at their childhood summer camp and wind up stumbling into a horror movie-like scenario. 5. "I'm aging myself here, but it's the reveal episode of Twin Peaks — Season 2, Episode 7, 'Lonely Souls.' I was 11, and it literally gave me nightmares from that night forward, for almost a year." — vibrantsealion34 "This would be my pick as well!!!! Scared me soooo badly when I was like 22 LOL." — serenafischer In this episode, Agent Dale Cooper discovers who the interdimensional serial killer Bob has possessed. 6. "Everyone talks about 'Blink,' but no one talks about the Doctor Who episode 'Midnight' [Season 4, Episode 10]. We never find out what it was, and it also shows what fear can do to people." — cyawill02 In this episode, the Doctor and Donna Noble take a vacation to Midnight, a leisure planet. When the Doctor goes off alone on a shuttle excursion, an unseen entity invades the bus and begins possessing the other passengers. 7. "This is an old one — the 'talking Tina doll' on The Twilight Zone [Season 5, Episode 6 'Living Doll']." — slykitten423 In this episode, Erich Streator is annoyed that his wife bought his stepdaughter an expensive 'Talky Tina' doll. Soon, the doll starts repeating how much she hates Erich, which drives him to attempt to destroy her — then she threatens his life. 8. "My vote has to go to one of those Twilight Zone episodes that don't really have a message, just some freaky stuff happening for no reason. Season 1, Episode 11 'And When the Sky Was Opened' freaked me out as kid." — grapesamazing In this episode, three astronauts whose rocket disappeared return to earth. However, everyone only remembers two of the astronauts — except for Colonel Forbes, the only person with any memory of Colonel Harrington. 9. "Season 4, Episode 2 of The Dick Van Dyke Show , 'The Ghost of A. Chantz,' when the Petries and friends go to a resort in the Catskills and end up staying in an old cabin. Scary things happen (furniture moves, a fire starts in the fireplace, a face appears in a mirror) and one by one, Buddy, Sally, and Laura disappear until only a very frazzled Rob is left." "I was always very excited when this episode came on when I was watching reruns or the DVDS, but I often couldn't watch it all the way through if I was alone. I pulled it up online within the year, and watching it still gives me a bit of a chill up my spine." — raquelrochelle 10. "Episode 5 of The Haunting of Hill House , 'The Bent-Neck Lady.' I had to read the rest of the series on Wikipedia." — annastacy93 "Came here for 'The Bent Neck Lady.'" — wickedwalrus90 In this episode, as a child, Nell is haunted by the ghost of a woman with a broken neck. 11. "The storm episode from The Haunting of Hill House [Episode 6, 'Two Storms']!" — riyadebnath In this episode, the Crain family reunites for Nell's funeral, and someone (or something) keeps messing with her body and casket. 12. "I remember 'Black Museum' ( Black Mirror Season 4, Episode 6) being so damn disturbing. When the doctor guy was addicted to the pain machine thing, I couldn’t stop thinking about that storyline for weeks. It was so fucked up." "Like, I get that show is supposed to be messed up, but of all the episodes I've seen, that's the one, years later, I never forgot." — thisisfine 13. "Once the Borg entered into the picture in Star Trek: The Next Generation [in Season 2, Episode 16 'Q Who'], I had to stop watching. That stuff freaked me out!" — sleepingminion78 14. "'The Perils of Punky!!!!' Aka, the 'cave episode' of Punky Brewster [Season 2, Episodes 6 and 7] — nightmare fuel even decades later." — c4farrell In this two-part special, Punky and her friends get lost in a cave while camping, so she decides to assuage their fear by making it "fun to be scared" with a ghost story. 15. "The 'Rabbit Ears' episode [Season 14, Episode 4] of American Dad is cool and creepy with Chris Pine as a guest voice." — moonmood In this episode, Stan finds a junk TV and watches a mysterious black and white show that plays the same episode each night, though each broadcast has small changes. He eventually climbs into the TV and gets trapped in the show, where his fate is threatened if it goes to commercial. 16. " Carnivàle Season 1, Episode 5, 'Babylon'— when they end up in the haunted mining town." — cutepepper91 17. "The third episode from The Amazing Digital Circus ['The Mystery of Mildenhall Manor'] might not be scary to others, but I quit watching it, not even halfway! I didn’t even see that much of the haunted mansion!" — oldsquid763 In this episode, the group, who are trapped inside a VR game, must investigate the ghosts in a haunted manor. 18. "'Please Remain Calm,' Episode 2 of Chernobyl — mainly the scene as they enter to drain the reservoirs, and the flashlights go out." — mrslack96 19. " X-Files Season 1, Episode 3, 'Squeeze.' Still can't watch it." — dizzyswan992 In their first "monster of the week" episode, Mulder and Scully are after a killer who can squeeze through tight gaps — and he returns for a murder spree every 30 years. 20. "'The Jersey Devil,' Season 1, Episode 5 of The X-Files . I was at that age where I was getting into Bigfoot. We lived near bush and would hear animals walking around all night, which was terrifying enough for a young boy with a wild imagination. So, sitting down to watch that episode immediately before having to let the dogs out for their nightly wee and then going to bed had me absolutely rattled." "I don't think I slept much that night. Every noise outside and every shadow dancing on my bedroom walls had my undivided attention." — jaylfrodger 21. " The X-Files Season 1, Episode 20, 'Darkness Falls.' My cousin was babysitting me, and I refused to go to bed. So he said he was going to watch his show, and I’d better not get scared if I was going to stay up. I was terrified. These swarms of bugs were wrapping people up in cocoons in the forest and sucking them dry. I went straight to bed after." "Although, when I was older, the series became one of my favorite shows. It's sort of a face-your-fear thing." — superqueen67 22. "The 'Home' episode of The X-Files [Season 4, Episode 2]. I watched it mostly with a blanket over my head." — heroiccomet94 "I think it was temporarily ' banned ,' as it was only shown once due to the graphic nature of the story." — gerrydavin In this episode, the discovery of the body of a baby with birth defects leads Mulder and Scully to investigate a family who are suspected of incest. After it aired, the negative feedback was so strong that Fox pulled the episode and didn't broadcast it again for three years. They paired it with an ad that said, "Only on Halloween would we dare air an episode so controversial it's been banned from television for three years. Consider yourself warned." It was the only episode of the series to be given a TV-MA rating. 23. And finally, "'Hellbound' from The X-Files [Season 9, Episode 8]. It involves skinning people alive. There's a scene in which the agents investigate one of the skinned victims hanging upside-down in a meat processing plant, and as soon as one of them goes to examine the body, the victim's eyes pop open, and it's revealed he's not actually dead." "It was the first episode of the show I ever watched; I convinced my mother I was old enough to watch it (at 11 or 12) and not get scared, and that was the next one that aired. I lied! I went on to watch the rest of the series in college, but I've never been able to bring myself to re-watch that one." — lobster_lemon_lime What's the scariest TV episode you've ever seen?
